Virtual Event
CREW WELFARE WEEK
A unique event bringing together stakeholders and experts in the shipping industry to discuss the challenges, hot issues and initiatives towards crew welfare onboard
Welcome
As the maritime industry evolves, prioritizing the human element is both an ethical responsibility and a strategic necessity for a sustainable future.
In this regard, drawing attention to seafarers’ well-being is crucial. The 2024 SEAFiT Crew Survey highlighted the need for reliable onboard internet, essential for staying connected and supporting mental health. The ability to communicate with loved ones is key to reducing feelings of isolation, which is an ongoing challenge for seafarers working in remote locations for extended periods. Access to reliable internet is no longer a luxury—it is a necessity for morale, mental health, and overall well-being.
Beyond communication, seafarers face a range of stressors including long work hours, limited access to healthcare, and the physical and emotional toll of life at sea. The importance of a holistic approach to their well-being cannot be overstated. Proper rest, nutrition, access to fitness facilities, and mental health support are critical factors in maintaining a healthy and productive workforce. Industry stakeholders must work together to ensure that seafarers’ health—both physical and mental—remains a top priority.
Seafarers are vital to global trade, yet many face challenges such as unjust detention, illegal recruitment fees, and abandonment. Recent industry efforts focus on strengthening their rights through legal advancements and stakeholder action. Beyond fair treatment, they must also adapt to emerging technologies and decarbonization, requiring specialized training in alternative fuels and evolving skills.
These are just a few of the critical issues affecting seafarers today. Join us for the 5th Crew Welfare Week to discuss key priorities for their working conditions and well-being. Through expert panels and discussions, we aim to place seafarers at the heart of industry transformation.
Taking place in the third week of June, this event will bring together leading stakeholders to share their insights. The journey toward a more diverse, equitable, and sustainable maritime sector requires collaboration and innovation. Mark your calendars for June 24-26, 2025, and let’s shape the future together!
